Funky Panky: Going Beyond Boundaries with Stranger & Sons

Welcome to Jigger & Pony Group’s cocktail lab, the creative home of our bartenders who join Jigger & Pony from all over the world. At the lab, we dream up cocktails that go beyond the boundaries of geography and culture. A cocktail that isn’t just a drink, but a homage to heritage, as well as a celebration of the diverse tapestry and experiences that forms our identity.

In this journey, we created the Funky Panky. Drawing from the rich flavours of Asian cultures, the Asian twist of the classic Hanky Panky is born. Central to this creation is our use of tuak - a traditional rice wine of Sarawak, Malaysia - to replace vermouth in the classic recipe.

More than just an ingredient, tuak is a symbol of free spirit and home, where it remains part of the everyday life of many Southeast Asians. Embodying the spirit of adventure and essence of hospitality, it has been enjoyed for centuries across countries like Malaysia and Indonesia.

Fermented with care by local biotechnology company Starter Culture, the tuak is fermented with glutinous rice over a week and fortified with rice-based baijiu. To elevate the complexity of the Funky Panky, we also add our own homemade amaro, created with a Malaysian herbal tea that’s a household staple.

We anchor this fusion of flavours with an Asian spirit - Stranger & Sons Gin, a spirited gem from the vibrant landscapes of Goa, India. Infused with bold citrus and spice notes of coriander, nutmeg and black pepper, the gin lends a familiar, comforting yet complex character to the Funky Panky.

Stirred and garnished with a chrysanthemum flower, the Funky Panky is a bracing tonic that embraces the bittersweetness of life and being yourself, wherever you are.
